Hearing Protection

EN 352-5:2002
Hearing protectors. General requirements Part 5: Active noise reduction ear-muffs

This standard requires all of the testing specified in EN 352-1 with the additional clauses below tested on additional samples.

Active attenuation

With an external sound pressure level of between 85 – 95dB, the level at the ear is measured with miniature microphones placed into the ear canals of human test subjects.

Maximum sound pressure level for linear operation

With the hearing protection worn, the external sound pressure level is increased in 5dB steps, the level at the ear is measured with miniature microphones placed into the ear canals of human test subjects. The point at which a 5dB external sound pressure level increase does not cause a 5dB increase at the ear is assessed.
